College - The unknown facts

It seems that there is a lack of informing students around the country about the true possibilities of attending college. Most of my friends I have spoken to about college mention that they were willing to give of the possibility of going to college because of their inability to pay for college or their belief that they are likely to not get accepted.

It troubles me to see their reasoning. Surely there has to be a way for all students to be aware of all of the opportunities of college. Personally, in my opinion, I believe that students of low income backgrounds are more likely to attend a university that most middle class students. I have seen students whose parents are able to contribute to their college education that are still not able to afford college and I have seen others who are not able to but attend college through either financial aid or scholarships. The fact of the matter is that most scholarships and financial aids out there are aimed towards low income students. Most students, however, are not informed about the opportunities.

I suggest a campaign or movement around the country to get students aware of the possibilities that are out there for them. Instead of aiming only the schools that are doing well academically, we should aim at every school. perhaps the reason why the students are not doing so well because they were never given the opportunity to excel.
